For the second session of our Speakers Series, we invite you to join Suzanne Campeau Whiteduck again as she has a panel discussion with three different artists with different styles and influences, and how these works helpto bridge Nbisiing, Wikwemikong, and Algonquin communities together.
Craig Commanda
Craig Commanda is an Anishinabe multimedia artist from Kitigan Zibi Anishinabeg, Qc. He is currently residing in Montreal. Craig is a musician, a film maker and poet. Most recently, Craig has been concentrating on his beadwork. His unique style of bead weaving geometric shapes can be seen in an exhibition at the Ottawa Art Gallery called Filtered. Amanda Fox
Amanda Fox is Ojibway from Wikwemikong and currently residing in Ottawa, On. She has been beading and sewing for many years and has hosted many workshops. Amanda has been featured at the Meteque Atelier D’Art in Montreal. She has recently started teaching Pow Wow Workouts online as a way to share her culture with people during the pandemic. Mariah Miigwans
Mariah Miigwans is Anishinabe also from Kitigan Zibi Anishinabeg, QC. She has been surrounded by skilled crafters and beaders since she was born and has been crafting since she was 6 years old. Mariah has started an online business where she sells original and custom beadwork. Through the development of her business, she is hoping to continue to raise awareness about First Nations culture as a step to healing for “Reconciliation”.
